Originally known as Decoration Day, this observance began after the Civil War to commemorate fallen soldiers. Over time, it evolved into a national day of remembrance for all U.S. military personnel who died in active service. Memorial Day serves as a powerful reminder of the cost of freedom and the legacy of courage left behind.
